Botanicals Nourishing Face Moisturiser Rose and Camellia

IMG_2590Botanicals Nourishing Face Moisturiser: Rose and Camellia – 30ml (£17.95)

Already impressed by the Botanicals Radiance Serum, which I reviewed last year, I am now very pleased to approve their Botanicals nourishing face moisturiser.

First, an observation on the packaging.  This small 30ml size comes in a smokey brown glass bottle. This already ticks boxes as far as I’m concerned.  Fully recyclable, no chemicals leaching out of plastic bottles to be concerned about and the brown glass, helps preserve the integrity of the natural ingredients from sun light.

If the glass had been left clear, the UV light would quickly degrade the ingredients, reducing the potency and longevity of them.

IMG_2592Now onto the main feature, the ingredients.  It contains an impressive 99% naturally derived ingredients, 91% of them, certified organic by the Soil Association. None of the ingredients are tested on animals and the entire Botanicals range is suitable for vegans. Suitable for both men and women, it is recommended for normal, dry and mature skin types.

The base and biggest ingredient is water, organic sunflower oil, organic shea butter and organic cacao butter. Unusual to find those three rich moisturising ingredients as the base ingredients. Then we see vegetable based glycerine, organic rose hip oil, organic olive oil and organic flax seed oil. In the middle of the ingredients list there is organic aloe vera powder and wild carrot root extract   Other key ingredients include natural source vitamin E and organic camellia sinensis leaf extract, more commonly known as the antioxidant Green Tea.

IMG_2593The aroma is clean, uplifting and not overly floral, despite being made up of the main ingredients, together with a mix of lavender, rose, geranium and ylang-ylang essential oils.

The convenient pump dispenses a small amount, so you can easily control how much you use. Only a couple of pumps is required. The light textured cream easily absorbs into the skin and does not leave a shiny, oily texture.

IMG_2595I particularly like how this moisturiser doesn’t suffocate the skin. Have you ever used a moisturiser that left your skin sweating underneath it? Well not with this. The cream maintains moisture levels throughout the day, without irritating or blocking the pores.

I definitely rate this moisturiser right up there in my top list of favourites, for a whole host of reasons, but particularly thanks to that list of 91% certified organic ingredients.  A pleasure to use and fully Del Brown Approved!

Intelligent Nutrients Revitalizing Moisture Crème

IMG_1687

Intelligent Nutrients Revitalizing Moisture Crème – 50ml (£45.00)

Founded by the late Horst Rechelbacher, also the founder of hair brand Aveda (sold to Estée Lauder in 1997). The Intelligent Nutrients philosophy is, “Everything we put in and on our bodies must be nutritious and safe“.  They strive to keep the entire process clean, from certified organic farming and food grade ingredients, right through to organic botanical aromas.  I’m a big fan of this brand and am very excited to introduce you to this, their Revitalizing Moisture Crème.  70% of the ingredients in this product are soil association certified organic and it’s 100% ‘leaping bunny‘ cruelty free.

The ingredient list is both comprehensive and extensive.  Where some other ‘perceived to be’ natural brands like to use the word ‘science’, I interpret to mean ‘chemicals’.  But with Intelligent Nutrients, they truly have applied science to nature, extracting plant stem cells from organically grown botanicals.

IMG_1691

Researching the ingredients list, you discover they have used a large amount of stem cells from the Gardenia Jasminoides Meristem Cell Culture.  This is the first time I have reviewed a product containing plant stem cells, in this case from the Gardenia (Gardenia Jasminoides) plant.  Literally, extracting cells from the plant and applying them in this moisturiser to have a positive, visible and completely natural effect on the skin. Helping to firm and stimulate collagen and having the potency equal or greater to that of Vitamin C.

Let me highlight some other key ingredients.  As always, in the order listed on the INCI list, so the first being the greater quantity.  Vegetable based glycerin, Gardenia Jasminoides Meristem cell culture and Glasswort (Salicornia Herbacea) extract.  Bio actives in the form of Algae (Undaria Pinnatifida) extract, which is rich in omega-3 fatty acids.  Soothing Aloe Vera leaf juice powder, organic black cumin seed oil, organic pumpkin seed oil, organic raspberry seed oil, organic grape seed oil and organic cranberry seed oil.  Moisturising organic coconut oil, organic African shea butter, organic safflower seed oil and natural source Vitamin E.

IMG_1696

On the subject of the aroma alone, which incidentally I would describe as gender neutral, clean and non-floral.  It is made up from the following organic botanicals: Ylang Ylang Flower oil, Bergamot Fruit oil, Orange Peel oil, Styrax Benzoin gum, Patchouli oil, Clove Flower oil, Nutmeg Kernel oil, Lavender oil, Sandalwood oil and Basil oil.

The result of this combination of ingredients is a cocktail of natural, potent antioxidants.  Moisturising, nourishing and softening which ultimately help support the natural structure of the skin, boosting moisture levels and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The airless pump keeps the product fresh, without the need of synthetic preservatives and delivers the product in a quick, easy to use, fuss-free way.  After experimenting, I’ve found two pumps delivers the optimum amount if you intend using it on its own.  One pump if you’re using it with a serum or face oil.

IMG_1683

My face is prone to redness after applying a moisturiser, but not with this one. My skin felt instantly hydrated, looking smooth with no irritation.  Lines around the sides of my eyes, particularly visible when I smile, age me greatly.  I’ve found with this moisturiser, I can hydrate and hide those lines all day, with just one application in the morning.

Suitable for all skin types, especially dry, it works great as a day or night time moisturiser and doesn’t leave your face looking glossy or greasy. I particularly noticed just how long my skin was left feeling hydrated, hours after application. I’ve been a big fan of Intelligent Nutrients since discovering their face wash.  This highly sophisticated moisturiser is a pleasure to use and the ingredients list is fully Del Brown Approved!

Bee Inspired Fab Face Cream – Bergamot, Sandalwood and Pine

IMG_1047

Bee Inspired Fab Face Cream – Bergamot, Sandalwood and Pine – 50ml (£18.00)

Bee Inspired are a small, natural skincare company, based in Surrey in the UK.  They are also Beekeepers with over 20 years experience. They harvest beeswax and honey from their own hives and use it in their natural skincare products. This is their ‘fab face cream’, which comes in an easy to use airless pump dispenser.

IMG_1053

The main and base ingredients in the moisturiser are emulsifying wax NF, which provides a thick, glossy texture and helps to combine the oils. Coco butter, which is extracted from the cocoa bean and is used to make chocolate. It has a velvety texture and is highly moisturising. Then we find three hydrating and soothing oils; sweet almond, rice bran and castor oil.

Two key ingredients in this moisturiser are homemade beeswax and honey, both extracted from their own hives.  In the photograph below, you can see three of their actual bee hives.  The beeswax provides the skin with a natural protective barrier, sealing in moisture. Whilst honey is full of antioxidants and is naturally antibacterial, so great to help keep the skin healthy and in good condition.

IMG_1646 12002194_878330535565666_3165406373228536485_n

Finally in the ingredients list we find vegetable based glycerin and essential oils of bergamot, sandalwood and pine needle. These three essential oils combine to create a subtle woody, warm aroma, making it popular with both men and women looking for a moisturiser without a floral fragrance.

IMG_1050
One pump delivers the perfect amount to fully moisturise your entire face, making this 50ml pot last a long time.  The texture is quite waxy, which is different to most other cream moisturisers. The cream quickly breaks down when smoothed into the skin, making it an easy to use product.  Ideal as a day time moisturiser, thanks to the light consistency and non-greasy finish.

Ingredients: Aqua, Cetearyl Alcohol and Polysorbate 60 (emulsifying wax NF), Theobroma Cacao, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis, oryza Sativa, Ricinus Communis, Beeswax, Honey, Glycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Citrus Bergamia Oil, Santalum Album Oil, Pinus Sylvestris Oil contains naturally Linalool + Limonene

The Organic Pharmacy Moisture Cream for Men

IMG_3781

The Organic Pharmacy Moisture Cream for Men – 75ml (£35.95)

The Organic Pharmacy, a company founded by Margo Marrone, opened her first shop on the Kings Road in London, in 2002. One of the brand philosophy’s is to ‘absolutely prohibit the use of artificial preservatives, fragrances and colorants’. So let me introduce you to this Organic PharmacyMoisture Cream for Men.

IMG_3780

It has a naturally cream colour and a heady, masculine, slightly woody aroma. Dispense a small amount onto your fingers and smooth over the face. Less is more with this moisturiser; you really don’t need to use much. The cream quickly absorbs into the skin, leaving your face feeling hydrated, comfortable and smooth.

IMG_3786
The biggest ingredient in this moisturiser is organic aloe vera, mixed with water, organic coconut oil, sesame seed oil, organic jojoba oil and organic shea butter.  Some of the other key botanicals found in this moisturiser include sunflower oil and Tamanu. Now Tamanu oil, from the Polynesian Islands, contains a host of neutral Lipids, Glycolipids, and Phospholipids.  More importantly used here in a moisturiser, it contains a natural anti-inflammatory.

Organic calendula has long been used to help heal a host of skin conditions. Organic St.John’s wart, anti-microbial organic propolis, natural antioxidant green tea and natural source Vitamin E.  This combination of ingredients helps to calm and repair the skin. The light texture and quick absorption makes it ideal post shave to re-hydrate the skin.

IMG_3783

This unusually large 75ml tube should last you a long time, the industry standard is 50ml.  Its compact size makes it easy to throw into a gym bag or take away whilst travelling. It contains an excellent list of natural ingredients, including 81% organic ingredients.  This is my first review of an Organic Pharmacy product and I’m confident, this won’t be my last!

Ingredients: Aloe (Aloe Barbadensis)*, Aqua (Water) , Coconut Oil (Cocos Nucifera)*, Sesame Seed Oil (Sesamum Indicum), Jojoba Oil (Simmondsia Chinensis)*, Shea Butter (Butyrospermum Parkii)*, Ceteryl Alcohol, Parfum (Fragrance), Behenyl Alcohol , Sunflower Oil (Helianthus Annus), Glyceryl Stearate*, Sodium Lactate , Benzyl Alcohol, Alcohol, Phospholipids*, Tamanu (Calophyllum Inophyllum), Xanthan Gum, Soybean Sterols (Glycine Soya)*, Marigold (Calendula Officinalis) Extract*, Hypericum Perforatum*, Propolis Cera* , Green Tea (Camellia Sinensis), Vitamin E (Tocopherol) , Sorbic Acid, Limonene , Linalool, Benzyl Benzoate, Geraniol, Benzyl Salicylate, Farnesol, Isoeugenol, Eugenol, Coumarin,

Elements by Collinsworth Natural Moisturiser

IMG_8310

Elements by Collinsworth Natural Moisturiser – 50ml (£22.00)

So to this, my second review for the Elements for men range by Collinsworth. This is their 50ml liquid Natural Moisturiser lotion, presented in simple, clean packaging.  The entire range is soil association, cruelty free and vegetarian society approved.

A little goes a long way with this moisturiser, so be sure to dispense a small amount into your hands before smoothing over the face.  You’ll find the light lotion texture absorbs super quick into the skin, this is due to the high alcohol content.  Now alcohol is completely natural, but particularly sensitive skins may want to patch test first.

IMG_8315

The next thing you’ll notice is the slippery texture thanks to the glycerin, which aids quick application.  The third thing you’ll be aware of is the aroma.  This moisturiser truly smells of the Greek island of Rhodes.  I’ve been racking my brains trying to pin down the fragrance, think cask ale and hops, it’s a real heady, herby smell.

IMG_8313

The main, base ingredients in the tube are water, organic alcohol, glycine, organic soya oil, glycerin and glyceryl stearate. Then we find organic coconut oil, sucrose stearate, natural thickener xanthan gun, coco glucoside, Then, stand by your beds people and look at this little lot, organic shea butter, organic cocoa seed butter, organic olive oil, organic pomegranate seed oil, organic jojoba seed oil, organic apricot oil, organic avocado oil, organic olive leaf extract, organic ylang ylang flower oil, organic patchouli oil and organic may chang fruit oil.  Finally, in the ingredients list we see coconut alcohol, organic aloe vera leaf juice powder, purfum from natural sources, vitamin E, gluconolactone, sodium benzoate, calcium gluconate and citric acid.

IMG_8318

In total, 87.46% of these ingredients are certified by the soil association as organic.  That mix of organic essential oils reads like a fruit cocktail list.  I can see younger men particularity loving this due to the ease of use, aroma and quick application. If you’re a dry or more mature skin, you may prefer from a thicker cream moisturiser. Really sensitive skins may prefer to avoid the high alcohol and essential oils.

Ingredients: Aqua, Alcohol Denat.*, Glycine Soja (Soya)Oil*, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*, Sucrose Stearate, Xanthan Gum, Coco Glucoside, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter*, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil*, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Seed Oil *, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil *, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil*, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil*, Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Extract*, Cananga Odorata (Ylang Ylang) Flower Oil*, Pogostemon Cablin (Patchouli) Oil*, Litsea cubeba (May Chang) Fruit Oil*, Coconut Alcohol, Aloe barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder*, Parfum*, Tocopherol, Gluconolactone, Sodium Benzoate, Calcium Gluconate, Citric Acid, Isoeugenol+, Geraniol+, Benzyl Benzoate+, Benzyl Salicylate+, Farnesol+, Linalool+, Citral+, Limonene+, Citronellol+

Lyons Leaf 100% Natural Beauty Balm

IMG_3078

Lyons Leaf 100% Natural Beauty Balm – 55ml (£12.99)

Stand by your beds, I’m particularly excited about this one and rightly so when you realise the quality of the ingredients, the uses and the price! But where are my manners? I haven’t even introduced you. Del Brown Approved would like to welcome you to this 100% Natural Beauty Balm from Ben and Vicky Lyons of Lyons Leaf, Mendip Hills, Somerset.

There are twelve 100% natural ingredients that go into making this balm and 95% of them are organic or from wild harvest. No water, preservatives, colourings or perfumes. All of the oils used are cold pressed, so no heat treatments were used during their extraction, preserving the quality.

IMG_3074

The base and biggest ingredient of the balm is cold pressed wild harvest babassu oil. Babassu oil is extracted from Babassu nuts which naturally fall in the amazon rainforest.  Then we find raw organic shea butter, organic cold pressed macadamia nut oil, organic cold pressed jojoba oil, cold pressed sweet almond oil, natural source vitamin E, palmrosa essential oil, clary sage essential oil, benzoin resin, patchouli essential oil, rosemary essential oil and Lyons Leaf’s very own home grown calendula flower extract.

IMG_3075

The smoky brown glass jar helps protect and preserve the integrity of the essential oils. It houses 55ml of solid balm. If ambient temperatures are warm, the texture of the balm may be softer. The glass jar is deceptively small, on first appearance you may be forgiven for thinking ‘that won’t last long’, until you start using it. You quickly realise a little goes a long way and this jar will last you a long time.

IMG_3066

The aroma is mainly of shea butter with a faint hint of rosemary oil.  The uses of this balm are vast. I primarily used it at night instead of a serum, oil or moisturising cream. Scoop out a pea sized amount into the fingers, warm together and watch the balm melt on contact with your body temperature (see photographs), then pat and smooth over the face. Allowing the oils to sink deep into the skin and do their work whilst you sleep.

The balm can also be used as an oil cleanser, scoop out a small amount onto the fingers, then work the balm onto dry skin. Allow the melted oils to work into the pores of the face, lifting grime and dissolving dirt. With the aid of a hot cloth of your choice, remove the oil and the debris of the day, leaving your face feeling clean and moisturised.

IMG_3067

But it doesn’t stop there. Apply a small amount of this balm onto dry and cracked skin, so lips, hands, feet, heels and elbows.

I’m full of big praise for this balm.  If you’re on a budget and looking for a Del Brown Approved ‘highly rated’ multi-tasker, this would be my first choice. If you’re already a fan of face balm, oils or serums, you’re going to love the quality of the ingredients. If you’re a sufferer of skin conditions like eczema, acne, irritated skin and react to a lot of ingredients, then check the ingredients list and give this a try.

Ingredients: orbignya oleifera, butyrospermum parkii, macadamia ternifolia, simmondsia chinensis , prunus amygdalus dulcis, tocopherol, cymbopogon martini, salvia sclarea, styrax benzoin, pogostemon cablin, rosemarinus officinalis, calendula officinalis

*Essential oils naturally contain: citral, geraniol, benzyl benzoate, benzyl cinnamate, farnesol, limonene, linolool

Nourish Argan Skin Renew Moisturiser

IMG_3032

Nourish Argan Skin Renew – 50ml (£25.00)

I’m already a big fan of the Nourish range and have been testing their daily moisturiser with added Argan oil for the past month.

As always, the most important thing is what’s in it. The base of the moisturiser is Water, Jojoba and Sunflower oil. One ingredient that particularly took my interest was Palmitoyl tripeptide-5. This is a peptide that mimics the body’s own ability to produce collagen, so when applied to the skin it helps plump out and minimise the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Then we find omega rich organic Argan oil, Selaginella Lepidophylla better known as Rose of Jericho, a desert plant. Kale seed oil, borage, wild rose, aloe vera, antioxident vitamin E, frankincense oil, ginger root extract and finally myrrh oil. 85% of the ingredients that make up this moisturiser are certified organic.

IMG_3018

Having been using this for the past month and concluding it has an exciting mix of ingredients and performed well, I gave it to my mum to gauge her reaction. I honestly didn’t need to ask her because the results spoke for themselves. Her skin was noticeably smoother, less lined and dare I say, less wrinkled, partially across the cheeks. I asked her what she had been using differently lately and her answer was “Nothing, only that Nourish moisturiser you gave me“.  My mum seriously rates this product saying it absorbs quickly and easily into the skin and feels as if it is smoothing and plumping.IMG_3020

The cream has a fairly neutral aroma, similar to Nourish’s Kale face scrub. I’d suggest this is not for teenagers, sensitive skins or anyone looking for a simple moisturiser. This is a power packed task master with some active ingredients, perfect for a 40 plus skin and those actively seeking visible results.

IMG_3023

Ingredients: Aqua (water), Simmondsia chinesis (jojoba) seed oil*, Helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil*, Glycerin*, Cetearyl alcohol, Palmitoyl tripeptide-5, Cetearyl glucoside, Argania sponosa (argan) kernal oil*, Sodium levulinate, Levulinic acid, Selaginella lepidophylla (rose of Jericho) extract, Lactobacillus ferment, Crambe abyssinica (Abysinnian kale) seed oil, Borago officinalis (borage) seed oil*, Rosa caninca (wild rose) seed oil*, Cetearyl olivate, Sorbitan olivate, Glyceryl sterate, Sodium hyaluronate, Aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice powder*, Tocopherol, Boswellia neglecta (frankincense) oil*, Potassium sorbate, Bisabolol, Zingiber officinale (ginger) root extract, Commiphora myrrha (myrrh) oil, limonene. Naturally present in essential oils.

*Organic Ingredient
