Living Nature Vitality Body Oil

IMG_4300Living Nature Vitality Body Oil – 100ml £24.99

So let’s welcome in the new year with a new category on Del Brown Approved; “Body Oil”. Where better to start than with a body oil that is made up of 100% natural ingredients, one of them being certified organic.

This is the Vitality Body Oil from New Zealand based Living Nature.

The two base and biggest ingredients in the product are almond and wheat germ oil. Then we see a large amount of arnica oil, citrus lemon oil, kunzea ambigua oil, Juniper oil, certified organic peppermint oil, clary sage oil and finally, tocopherol; natural source vitamin E.

When you first unscrew the cap, you can smell a cocktail of natural aromas from peppermint to lemon. There isn’t one specific aroma that seems to dominate. The uses of this body oil are vast. Primarily if you’re a fan of massage, then this is just the job. This specific mix of oils are designed to warm and invigorate, so not the best choice if you’re looking to use it just before bed time. This mix is however ideal before exercise to warm up, stimulate and energise muscles.

Two of the ingredients stand out for me in this product. Firstly the large amount of arnica oil, being the third biggest ingredient in the bottle. Arnica is known for its healing properties, often used on bruises and sprains. Arnica is extracted from the Daisy plant (Compositae) and the specific variety used in this oil is the Montana extract, which is an alpine, high altitude plant. Used here in a body oil, many people find arnica oil helps relieve the symptoms of swelling and aching muscles. Unsurprising that a lot of sports massage is performed using arnica oil.

The other interesting ingredient is Kunzel Ambigua Oil. Native to Australia, known as ‘Tick Bush’ plant as the oil has been shown to repel ticks from animals resting close to the plant. In Australia the oil is approved and registered by the TGA (Australia) for the temporary relief of arthritis pain, muscle ache and temporary relief from rheumatism pain. None of which I can confirm myself, but I’d be interested to hear from any of you that have experience of using this oil for treating such symptoms.

You can also pour 15ml into your bath water or a less amount in a foot bath, allowing time for the oils to penetrate and soak into the skin. The after effects of using this oil is the skin is left feeling hydrated and scented with a fresh zingy aroma. The oil is suitable for all skin types and can be applied daily or as necessary.

Ingredients: Prunus amygdalus dulcis oil, Triticum vulgar germ oil, Arnica montana extract, Citrus medica limonum oil*, Kunzea ambigua oil*, Juniperus communis oil*, Mentha piperita oil**, Salvia sclaria oil*, Tocopherol.

*From natural essential oils: Citral, Citronellol, Limonene, Linalool.
**Certified organic
