Spiezia Moisturising Hand Balm

IMG_1068

Spiezia Moisturising Hand Balm – 50ml (£16.95)

Let me start this review by shouting 100% ORGANIC!  Every single ingredient within this little green frosted jar, is certified by the UK soil association as being organic.  Welcome dear reader to my second review for the brand I had never heard of, Spiezia Organics.

You may be forgiven for thinking this is an international brand, but in fact, their home is sunny Cornwall.  All of the Spiezia products are certified organic, which makes them quite unique.  Most natural brands contain ‘some’ organic ingredients, but very few contain ALL.

IMG_1065

“oh wow!” were the words I uttered when I first opened the lid and smelt the aroma.  It was a warm day and I could see the top layer of the balm melting in the jar.  I scooped out a tiny amount (petit pois size) in preparation to take you a photograph and upon contact of my body heat, the balm had melted.

The base and main ingredients in this hand balm are ylang ylang oil and beeswax.  Then they have mixed an infusion of sweet orange peel oil, grapefruit seed extract, petitgrain leaf oil, lavender oil, olive oil, rose geranium, apricot oil, rose flower extract, sesame seed oil, jojoba seed oil and finally wheat germ oil.  Every single one organic.

With ingredients like this, I would expect this to be a face balm.  But no, in this case Spiezia have created a moisturising hand balm.  Oils by their very nature are able to sink deeper into the skin than any water based cream, that’s why face oils work so well.  Now let’s be practical for a moment.  The ingredients in this hand balm are all oils, which may not be the most practical thing to apply to your hands if you’re about to start some paper work or require a firm grip.

So, having experimented with this product for a while, I conclude, for day time application use only a tiny amount.  Less is more. The oils melt and spread easily and widely, keeping your hands hydrated for longer than creams.  Last thing at night, apply slightly more and massage into dry hands for an intensive overnight treatment. If you’ve been over generous, make sure you rub any excess into your feet or elbows.  Don’t waste a drop.

IMG_1061

The results are exactly what you’d want from a hand product. Highly moisturised, long lasting smooth, soft skin.  You may be detecting a little excitement in this review and rightly so I think.  100% organic and 100% Del Brown Approved!

Ingredients: Cananga Odorata flower oil, Cera Alba, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis peel oil, Citrus Grandis seed extract, Citrus Nobilis leaf oil, Lavandula Angustifolia flower extract, Lavandula Angustifolia flower oil, Olea Europaea fruit oil, Pelargonium Graveolens flower oil, Prunus Armeniaca kernel oil, Rosa Damascena flower extract, Sesamum Indicum seed oil, Simmondsia Chinensis seed oil, Triticum Vulgare germ oil

Riad Of Aromas Avocado and Chamomile Body Cream

Riad of Aromas Avocado and Chamomile Softening and Soothing Body Cream – 100ml (£11.50)

I discovered ‘Riad of Aromas’ whilst at the professional beauty show in London earlier this year. Their range of Moroccan inspired products are designed for people with sensitive skin.  Their entire range is made without synthetic chemicals such as parabens, petrochemicals, alcohol, SLS or artificial colours and fragrances.

IMG_3003

So to this, my first review from the range and this is their Avocado and Chamomile Softening and Soothing Body Cream, particularly suitable for dry, distressed and sensitive skin. 100% of the ingredients in the pot are from natural origin and is suitable for Vegans.

IMG_3004

How about body cream, which incidentally I’ve found works just as well as a hand or foot cream, where the greatest ingredient is water and Avocado oilAvocado oil is naturally high in vitamin E, antioxidants, monounsaturated fatty acids and Sterolin.  Studies have shown Sterolin to facilitate the softening of the skin and reduce the appearance of age spots.

IMG_3005

The third ingredient is Apricot oil, moisturising shea butter and Jojoba oil.   Then we find glycerine, cetearyl alcohol and cetearyl glucoside three vegetable based emulsifiers and fatty acids derived from plant oils.  Then we find Chamomile, which has long been renowned for its anti-inflammatory, calming and soothing properties.  Geranium, Lavender oil and natural source vitamin E.  Finally at the end of the ingredients list we see sodium anisate, sodium levulinate, glyceryl oleate, lactic acid, four ingredients I have looked into and have no concern over.

IMG_3013

The cream has a non-specific natural aroma and is quick to absorb into the skin leaving it feeling smooth and moisturised.  Unlike some creams, this one doesn’t feel at all sticky or greasy.  Even if you were to over apply and use too much, the cream sinks rapidly into the skin leaving it looking matt, not shiny, primarily thanks to the second biggest ingredient Avocado oil.

Ingredients: aqua, persea gratissima (avocado) oil, prunus armeniaca (apricot) oil, butyrospermum parkii butter, simmondsia chinensis seed oil, glycerine, cetearyl alcohol, cetearyl glucoside, matricaria chamomilla (chamomile) flower extract, pelargonium graveolens oil, lavandula angustifolia oil, tocopherol, sodium anisate, sodium levulinate, glyceryl oleate, lactic acid, Citronellol*, Geraniol*, Linalool*.

*Naturally occurring molecules

Suitable for Vegans. Not tested on animals. Contains nut oil.

Natural Empathy Great British Luxury Hand Lotion

IMG_1056IMG_1064

Natural Empathy Great British Luxury Natural Hand Lotion – 200ml (£15.00)

The base for this hand lotion is a mix of water, British grown extra virgin cold pressed rapeseed oil that is rich in omegas 3, 6 and 9. Soothing aloe vera and avocado oil, known for being high in vitamin E and for its high skin penetration and rapid absorption. Glycerin, natural source vitamin E in the form of Tocopherol, then finally fragranced with a mix of 13 organic essential oils to create a 100% natural floral lavender scent. The essential oils used must be a closely guarded secret as they are neither listed on the packaging or on crystal spring’s website, but I can certainly detect lavender and lavandin.

Just one pump rubbed into the hands, nails, dry elbows, anywhere on the body that requires attention.  This light textured, naturally cream coloured lotion, quickly absorbs into the skin, leaving it feeling moisturised without being greasy.  The natural lavender fragrance is both clean and fresh, none of your ‘old grannies synthetic lavender’ smell here! I even had one lady say to me “oh you smell nice!” then I realised the only product I had applied that morning was this hand cream!

Award winning ‘best new natural beauty product’ at the natural and organic awards 2011, there’s nothing not to love. Made in Great Britain, the quality of the ingredients provides the skin with everything it needs to remoisturise, plump up and remain hydrated for hours after application. No synthetic colourings or fragrances and using 100% natural oils that sink deep into the skin to lock in moisture.

Ingredients: Aqua, Brassica campestris, Aloe barbadensis (Aloe Vera), Cetearyl alcohol & Coco glucoside (Naturally derived emulsifier), Persea gratissima (Avocado oil), Stearic acid (Naturally derived emulsifier), Glycerin, Tocopherol (Naturally derived Vitamin E),  *Natural Parfum, Sodium bicarbonate (Naturally derived PH adjuster), Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexglycerin, Sodium benzoate, **Citral, **Citronellol, **Coumarin, **Eugenol, **Geraniol, **Limonene, **Linalool.

*Denotes natural & organic essential oils. **From essential oils

Having already reviewed the original Gamila Secret Cleansing Bar, I was very interested to try out the other products within the range.  This time the Gamila Secret Hand Cream.

These ingredients combine to create a bright yellow cream, which is easily absorbed and keeps the hands feeling moisturised without stickiness.   It has a mild orange zesty fragrance that isn’t over powering.

Ingredients: Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside, Butyrospermum Pqarkii [Shea Butter], Cera Alba, Cetyl Alcohol, Olea Europaea [Olive] Fruit Oil, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Persea Gratissima [Avocado] Oil Unsaponifiables, Benzyl Alcohol, Salicylic Acid, Glycerin, Sorbic Acid, Xantham Gum, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis [Sweet Orange] Seed Oil, Panthenol, Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Oil, Aloe Barbadensis [Aloe Vera] Leaf Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Phytate, Inula Helenium Extract, Laurus Nobilis Oil, Pistacia Vera Seed Oil, Nigella Sativa Seed Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia [Lavender Oil]
