Purely Puti All-Body Salt Scrub

Purely Puti All-Body Salt Scrub – 250ml (£10.00)

Welcome to Scottish brand, Purely Puti, a range of natural, hand made skincare products, suitable for Vegans, not tested on animals and free from synthetic fragrances.  This is their all-body salt scrub.

Just seven, 100% natural ingredients go into the making of this body scrub.  The biggest ingredients are Dead Sea Salt, Organic Unrefined Shea Butter, Sweet Almond Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Corn Starch, Vitamin E Oil and finally Lemongrass Essential Oil.

Scoop out a small, table spoon amount, onto your fingers and massage on to dry or slightly damp skin.  As it rightly says on the label; “It should feel rough, but not painful. Don’t scrub too hard or for too long: you only want to rub away the dead skin cells, not the entire top layer of skin.”

The dead sea salt spreads easily, gently exfoliating the skin.  Smoothing rough skin and removing dead surface skin cells, leaving it feeling silky smooth.  At the same time, the unrefined organic shea butter starts to moisturise, hydrating the top layers of the skin.

Once you’ve allowed time to rub and massage the salt scrub into the skin, add some warm water to the mix.  You’ll see and feel the scrub dissolve into an intensively moisturising, silky balm.  Continue to massage the skin, allowing the shea butter, sweet almond oil and extra virgin olive oil to intensively hydrate the skin

Finally, either submerge yourself into a warm bath, or rinse off in the shower.  There should be no need to follow on with a body moisturiser, just gently pat dry and feel the difference.  Take extra caution not to slip in the shower or bath tub, especially if you’ve used this salt scrub on your feet.

I used this scrub on my feet to give them a weekly treatment.  The salt works great to smooth rough skin and freshen, especially between the toes.  There’s no mint fragrance with this one, the fresh lemongrass aroma makes it totally unisex.  The bonus of using something like this is your hands are also left feeling silky smooth and soft.  Unlike some salt scrub’s I have tried, this one doesn’t sit in liquid oil in the tub.  The oils are fully absorbed into the salt.

An excellent rough salt scrub that does exactly what you want it to do.  Fully Del Brown Approved!

INCI Ingredients: Sodium Chloride, Vitellaira Paradoxa Organic SSP Nilotica, Prunus Dolcis, Olea Europaea, Corn Starch, Tocopherol, Cymbopogon Citratus.—250ml/4471861

Spearmint exfoliating body polish from Balance Me

Balance Me Skin Brightening Exfoliating Body Polish 220g (£15.99)

If you are already a fan of salt scrubs but aren’t keen on the oil slick associated with them, then I’d suggest trying this skin brightening exfoliating body polish from the ladies at Balance Me.

Unlike some other salt body scrubs, this one doesn’t have the oil and salt separate in the pot. The result is a thick, sugar-like texture that is infused with sweet almond oil, virgin coconut oil and shea butter.  They have added glyceryl oleate, which is derived from glycerin and oleic acid, both fats extracted from vegetable oils. Unrefined beeswax and coco glucoside derived from coconut and fruit sugars.  The powerful fresh minty fragrance is courtesy of the spearmint oil.  Natural skin loving vitamin E is provided by Tocopherol and finally they have added some Rosemary extract.

Unscrew the lid and you are hit by the 100% natural spearmint aroma.  Sink your fingers into the white salt and rub onto dry or slightly damp skin. Take time to massage to release the infused oils and allow them to to sink and absorb into the skin.  Oils have the ability to absorb deeper into the top layer of the skin, so pause for a moment and allow the oils to rehydrate dry skin and for the gritty salt to smooth rough patches. These types of body scrub are particularly good when massaged into the feet and between the toes. Leaving your feet feeling and smelling minty fresh.

Ingredients: Maris sal, Prunus amygdalus dulcis oil, Cocus nucifera oil, butyrospermum parkii butter, glycerin, bera alba, mentha viridis, coco glucoside, glyceryl oleate, Tocopherol, Rosemarinus officinalis extract, Limonene

Peppermint sea salt body scrub from Ochre

Ochre Enliven Body Scrub – 400g (£24.00)

I discovered the Ochre Body and Skin range recently and have had the pleasure of trying out their Rosemary and Peppermint Enliven Salt Scrub for the first time.

This tub of sea salt and oils has a strong aroma of peppermint. When you first unscrew the lid, you can see the oils floating on top of the sea salt. Sink your fingers into the thick, gritty mixture and rub a good-sized amount onto either dry or damp skin. Then take the time to gently rub and massage the mixture of oils and salt onto the skin. Concentrate your efforts particularly on dry or rough patches. Don’t neglect the feet! A foot massage using these salts will not only freshen but also ease tired and aching muscles. Without realising it, you’re also giving your hands a treatment too.

While the sea salts are exfoliating and smoothing dead and rough skin, the sweet almond oil and beeswax are intensely hydrating and moisturising.  This weekly ritual is best done whilst stood in the bath or shower, then either rinse off or lower yourself into warm bath water and inhale the zingy peppermint and rosemany essential oils. The lingering results are moisturised, soft and smooth skin.

The ingredients are Sea Salt, Sweet Almond Oil, Beeswax, Silica, Rosemary and Peppermint oil. The most dominating smelling ingredient being the peppermint oil. Think mint Aero!

This is one of the largest sized salt scrubs I’ve reviewed at 400g so is going to last you a good while.

Ingredients: Sodium Chloride (Sea Salt), Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Silica, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Oil, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil, Limonene.

The power of the sea in a body scrub

Nova Scotia Fisherman Salt-N-Sea Body Scrub – 141g

Canadian born Nova Scotia Fisherman, lesser known here in the UK, make a range of natural products.  Click here to see all my Nova Scotia Fisherman reviews.  This pot of salt-n-sea is true to its word.  Sea salt mixed with oils and extracts taken from the sea.

The grains of sea salt in this product are really small.  They have been infused with jojoba seed oil, which has itself been infused with Nova Scotia Sea Kelp.  It is that that gives this body scrub such a unique aroma.  Other ingredients include Soybean oil, organic shea butter, Meadowfoam seed and Seabuckthorn oil.

Nova Scotia Sea Kelp – Fucus Vesiculosus more commonly known as bladderwrack, is a sea weed that has detoxifying properties acting as a barrier against toxins. Being cell regenerating it helps with skin elasticity and wrinkles. It is a cleansing anti-oxidant with anti-inflammatory properties.

Scoop out a small amount of these yellow coloured granules and massage onto dry or damp skin.  The sea salt release their oils which moisturise the skin.  The abrasive salt also removes dirt and dead skin cells, smoothes rough skin and unclogs pours leaving your skin feeling tingling and reenergised.

Ingredients: Maris Sal (Sea Salt), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil infused with Fucus Vesiculosus (Nova Scotia Sea Kelp)*, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)*, Limanthes Alba (Meadowfoam Seed) Oil, Parfum (100% essential oil blend) Hippophea Rhamnoides (Virgin Seabuckthorn) Oil

Bodhi & Birch Rosemary Chi Himalayan Detox Salt Scrub

Bodhi & Birch Rosemary Chi Himalayan Detox Salt Scrub – 250g (£35.00)

This is my first review of a product from Bodhi and Birch.  A young English brand using all natural ingredients and made in England.  Attracted by the ingredients and being in the market for a really gritty body scrub, I thought I’d give this Rosemary Chi Himalayan Detox Salt Scrub a whirl.

When you unscrew the heavy 250g black glass jar, you are first hit with the aroma of Ayurvedic Indian oils, like from a newly lit censer.  Sink your fingers into the pink/peach coloured salts and scoop out a small amount.  Then massage onto damp skin (not the face).

My tip and stay with me for this, is to do this process whilst stood in the bath with the hot clean water around your ankles. Oh and don’t put any bath product into the water.  Trust me!

The first thing that impressed me was that the salts didn’t dissolve away. The grittiness remained and whilst massaging, the salts released more of their natural aroma and essential oils.  Dry elbows and knees drink up the oils like a sponge.  Dull looking skin on arms and legs become glossy and rehydrated.  Tired aching rough feet become smooth, energised relaxed and sweet scented.

Then, just when you’d usually rinse the salts down the drain, instead, lower yourself into the bath water and watch.  The salts instantly dissolve releasing their essential oils into your bath water.  Take time to relax in this most indulgent and opulent bathing experience.  Your entire bathroom fills with the heady aroma of mixed essential oils.  A treat for the mind, body and soul.  If you think I’m over exaggerating, I encourage you to try this for yourself.

When your much deserved ‘me time’ is over, pat the skin dry.  Your skin will feel like you’ve slipped into a pair of silk pyjamas and socks.  Even your towel will become scented with the aroma of the oils and you’ll look forward to the next time you treat yourself to the Bodhi Salt Scrub again.

My ingredient purists among you will adore this little lot.  The biggest ingredient in the pot is Himalayan Salt Crystals, Organic Shea Butter, Grape Seed, Sweet Almond and Olive Oil.  Then we find Rosemary, Geranium, Cedar wood and Red Mandarin oils.  Where most other salt scrubs would have stopped, we then find Clary Sage Oil, Tea Tree, Galangal Root and Vetyver oil.  In short, not a single ‘dud’ ingredient in the entire pot.

To conclude.  So far, the ultimate ‘Rolls Royce’ of salt scrubs on Del Brown Approved! and proof that all salt scrubs are NOT created equal!

Ingredients: Sodium Chloride (Himalayan Salt Crystals), Butyrospermum Parkii (Organic Shea Nut) Butter, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Prunus Armeniaca, (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Prunus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Squalane / Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens (Geranium) Flower Oil, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Juniperus Virginiana (Virginian Cedarwood) Oil, Citrus Nobilis (Red Mandarin) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium var. Amara (Petitgrain) Leaf Oil, Salvia Sclarea (Clary Sage) Oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf OIl, Alpina Officinalis (Galangal) Root OIl, Vetiveria Zizanoides (Vetyver) Root OIl, Citral*, Citronellol*, Geraniol*, Limonene*, Linalool* *natural constituents of essential oils

Salt body scrub from REN

REN Guerande Salt Exfoliating Body Balm – 330ml (£20.00)

Being in the market for a really rough, gritty body scrub, which can double as a foot scrub, I thought I’d try out REN’s offering labelled as an exfoliating body balm.

Guerade is a town on the western coast of France where REN have selected their sea salt for this product. They have mixed it with Sweet Almond and Olive Oil, to produce an intensely moisturising gritty balm, which is surprisingly concentrated.

When you open the huge 330ml pot you’re immediately hit with the aroma of fresh zesty mint, thanks to the Mentha Piperite (Peppermint) Oil. The consistency feels like you’re sinking your fingers into damp white sand, which is in fact sea salt.

Scoop out a small amount with your fingers and rub onto the body. Concentrating your efforts on dry elbows, knees, backs of the upper arm and feet.  This balm can be applied to dry or damp skin and within seconds you discover just how moisturising it is.  The mix of basil and rosemary essential oils is dominated by the peppermint oil, leaving the skin smelling fresh.

Sea salt is the only grit within this product, which is good for people with sensitive skin.  So if you’re after a mild, gentle, body exfoliator or you have particularly dry skin on the body, I would recommend trying this.  If you’ve been out in the sun and find your shoulders are starting to peel, this would also be ideal!

Ingredients: Maris Sal (Sea Salt), Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Glyceryl Stearate, Ethyhexyl Palmitate, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Laureth 3, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Glycerin, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil, Ocimum Basilicum (Basil) Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Linalool, Limonene, Tocopherol.

Dead Sea salt scrub from Neals Yard

Neals Yard Geranium & Orange Body Scrub – 200g (£17.50)

Ignore the word ‘Body’ and instead think ‘Feet’ is my ‘tip du jour’.  Sink your fingers into this pot of loveliness and give your feet a massage.  Not only will it smooth hard skin but also soften and nourish with all that Shea Butter, the second biggest ingredient in the pot!!  After trying lots of these scrubs, this particular one has long been a repeat purchase for me.

I haven’t found the need to ‘body scrub’, but another practical use I found was when my bald head and shoulders started peeling, post Greek holiday. Rub some of this in and not only will the dead peeling skin come off, but your head and shoulders will be left feeling silky smooth!  It’s quite addictive!!

Bare in mind as with all natural products that don’t contain preservatives, once opened you’ve got only 3 months to use it, before it stars loosing it’s nice smell.

Ingredients: Maris sal (Dead sea salt), Butyrospermum parkii (Shea) butter*, Glycine soja (soya) oil, Olea europaea (Olive) fruit oil*, Sodium methyl cocoyl taurate, Cera alba (Beeswax)*, Theobroma cacao (Cocoa) seed butter*, Oryza sativa (Ground rice)*, Glycerin*, Cannabis sativa (Hemp) seed oil*, Argania spinosa (Argan)*, Citrus aurantium dulcis (Orange) peel oil*, Pelargonium graveolens (Geranium) oil*, Tocopherol, Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) seed oil*, Citral, Citronellol, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool.

*Organically produced ingredient. Natural constituent of essential oils listed. Made with 60% organic ingredients.
