Zephorium Soul Tonic Carrot and Sweet Orange Face Oil

IMG_2954

Zephorium Soul Tonic Carnelian Crystal Face Serum – 30ml (£36.00)

Time for something a little bit different!  We’re all familiar with face oils and serums, I am a big fan and regular user of them as oils are able to penetrate deeper into the skin than any moisturising cream.  So allow me to introduce you to a brand called Zephrorium.

Zephroium have created a range of natural skincare products and I’ve been trying out their 85% organic Carnelian Crystal with Carrot Oil and Sweet Orange Oil face serum. Presented in a bright orange coloured frosted glass bottle with a pipet lid, this face oil has an unusual and intriguing list of ingredients.

IMG_2962

The base and biggest ingredient in the bottle is organic apricot kernel oil, followed by carrot oil infused with sunflower oil. Then we find sweet orange oil, natural source vitamin E, frankincense oil and finally palmarosa oil.  That’s it.  No fillers, artificial colourings, perfumes or preservatives.  Produced in Suffolk and using British suppliers.

So what makes this oil different from most other face oils on the market?  On closer examination of the ingredients list, you will find references to Potentised Carnelian Crystal D200 in Citrus Aurantium Dulcis, Potentised Carnelian Crystal D 400 in Boswelia Carterii and Potentised Carnelian Crystal D1000 in Cymbopogon Martini.  I had the pleasure of chatting with the company founder Sarah Cox, whilst at a recent trade event and asked her, “what does this all mean?”.

“The Homeopathic potency is in the aromatherapy in three different potencies as the different potencies offer a slightly different vibration. I find it beneficial to have a blend of vibrations.  The homepathically potentised crystal is in the bottle in vibrational form only so no physical crystal remains. The energy of Carnelian crystal is all about grounding and restoring vitality and crystal healers will tell you that it is a wonderful crystal for helping to overcome lack of trust. I think it works beautifully with the carrot oil which is such a vibrant oil packed with vitamins. Many companies use a synthetic version of Vitamin A, I like to use the real thing!”

I used this face oil mainly at night before bed.  Applying a few drops onto the fingers then massage on to the face.  You can use it just on its own, or for especially dry skin, follow with your moisturiser of choice.  If you’re in a real hurry, you can even apply a few drops directly on to your moisturiser, combine and apply to the face.  The oil leaves your face feeling hydrated, comforted and soothed.

There are two big effects you notice when using this oil.  Firstly, is the aroma.  It is packed with the zesty uplifting aroma of freshly squeezed oranges, making it an absolute pleasure to use.  Secondly is the colour.  The base ingredients being apricot and orange oil have that naturally bright orange hue, which with regular use, did seem to give my face an almost sun kissed complexion. Whilst using this face oil I had more than one person ask me “Have you been away?”.

The use of carrot oil provides the skin with natural source vitamin A, combined with natural source vitamin E found in the form of Alpha Tocopherol.  This face oil is not only a delight to use but also treats the skin to a vitamin packed boost every time you use it.

Ingredients: Prunus Armeniaca* (Apricot Kernel*). Daucis Carota infused in Helianthus Annus (Sunflower oil). Potentised Carnelian Crystal D200 in Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Sweet Orange Oil). Alpha Tocopherol (Vitamin E Oil). Potentised Carnelian Crystal D 400 in Boswelia Carterii (Frankincense Oil). Potentised Carnelian Crystal D1000 in Cymbopogon Martini (Palmarosa Oil) *Organic

Barenaturals Organic Peppermint Soap 100g (£3.65)

Yet another absolute winner from Barenaturals.  This peppermint soap really does leave your skin feeling ziggy minty fresh!

The base of the soap is a mixture of Olive, Coconut and sustainable Palm oils, mixed with organic peppermint, organic Corn mint leaf oil and vitamin E.  That’s it!  No nasties, no unnecessary artificial green colour or synthetic mint perfume, this truly is the real deal and an absolute pleasure to use. Corn mint leaves are used in Ayurvedic medicine and are rubbed into the skin to relieve aches and pains, so using this soap post gym workout will not only freshen and clean the skin but may also provide some muscle relief.

IMG_3503IMG_3498

The precise mix of the three base oils ensures the skin remains moisturised and doesn’t dry out or cause irritation after use.  The soap quickly lathers up with lots of white natural bubbles and foam which easily clean the entire body, leaving you feeling and smelling minty fresh.  The long lasting aroma is naturally uplifting and stimulating, great for use in the shower first thing in the morning.  As the ingredients are so minimalist and pure, even sensitive skins will love it.

Spiezia Organic Lemongrass and Marigold Soap

IMG_3122

Spiezia Organic Lemongrass and Marigold Soap – 90g (£7.95)

Now it’s one thing making any product with organic ingredients, but its quite another using ‘certified‘ organic ingredients.  There are many widely recognised organisations that approve organic ingredients; the main one in the UK is the Soil Association.  This gives the consumer reassurance that the ingredients used are genuinely organic.  You can read more about the Soil Association’s criterial list on their website: The Soil Association

So let me welcome Del Brown Approved readers to Cornwall based Spiezia Organics Lemongrass and Marigold Soap. Spiezia Organics have gone to the effort to get all of their main ingredients in this bar of soap, certified organic. Excluding trace elements that are naturally found in essential oils, there are just seven ingredients in this soap, six if you exclude the sodium hydroxide which is an essential part of the soap making process and is not present in the final product.

IMG_3129

Three base oils, Olive, Palm and Coconut are mixed with three essential oils of Lemongrass, Calendula and Wheat Germ.  The small bar lathers up quickly when added with warm water and the aroma of fresh botanicals fills the bathroom whilst gently fragrancing your skin.  The ingredients are kind and gentle making it perfect for use on the most sensitive of skins.  I used this from top to toe and found it working perfectly as a beard shampoo.

IMG_3125

The base of this soap is certified organic olive oil, organic palm oil and organic coconut oil.  Then we see sodium hydroxide or Lye, organic Lemongrass leaf oil, organic Calendula flower extract and Organic Wheat Germ Oil.

Lemongrass is used in Ayurvedic medicine for being good at relieving cough and nasal congestion, whilst Marigold (Calendula) is said to have anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-inflamatory properties.  If you suffer from mild spots on your back, chest or shoulders or have irritated skin, the ingredients in this bar may well prove beneficial.

Ingredients: Olea Europaea (Olive) fruit oil, elaeis guineensis (Palm) oil, cocos nuclear (coconut) oil, **sodium hydroxide, cymbopogon citratus (lemongrass) leaf oil, calendula officials (calendula) flower extract, triticum vulgar (wheat) germ oil, *citral, *citronellol, *geraniol, *limonene **Non organic *naturally occurring in essential oils

Nourish Argan Skin Renew Moisturiser

IMG_3032

Nourish Argan Skin Renew – 50ml (£25.00)

I’m already a big fan of the Nourish range and have been testing their daily moisturiser with added Argan oil for the past month.

As always, the most important thing is what’s in it. The base of the moisturiser is Water, Jojoba and Sunflower oil. One ingredient that particularly took my interest was Palmitoyl tripeptide-5. This is a peptide that mimics the body’s own ability to produce collagen, so when applied to the skin it helps plump out and minimise the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Then we find omega rich organic Argan oil, Selaginella Lepidophylla better known as Rose of Jericho, a desert plant. Kale seed oil, borage, wild rose, aloe vera, antioxident vitamin E, frankincense oil, ginger root extract and finally myrrh oil. 85% of the ingredients that make up this moisturiser are certified organic.

IMG_3018

Having been using this for the past month and concluding it has an exciting mix of ingredients and performed well, I gave it to my mum to gauge her reaction. I honestly didn’t need to ask her because the results spoke for themselves. Her skin was noticeably smoother, less lined and dare I say, less wrinkled, partially across the cheeks. I asked her what she had been using differently lately and her answer was “Nothing, only that Nourish moisturiser you gave me“.  My mum seriously rates this product saying it absorbs quickly and easily into the skin and feels as if it is smoothing and plumping.IMG_3020

The cream has a fairly neutral aroma, similar to Nourish’s Kale face scrub. I’d suggest this is not for teenagers, sensitive skins or anyone looking for a simple moisturiser. This is a power packed task master with some active ingredients, perfect for a 40 plus skin and those actively seeking visible results.
