JooMo Honey & Orange Face Wash – 100ml (£9.95)
I reviewed this facewash from JooMo back in 2014 and gave it high praise indeed. But at the end of last year the formulation and packaging had slightly changed. I have been road testing the new version and here are my findings.
Unusually for me, lets start by looking at the ingredients:
INGREDIENTS: Aqua, Saccharum Officinarum (Unrefined Sugar) Extract, Maris Sal (Organic Sea Salt), Saponins, Mel (Unprocessed Raw Honey), Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Juice, Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba (Guar) Gum, Acacia Senegal Gum Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Leaf Oil, Cinnamomum Zeylanicum (Cinnamon) Leaf Oil, Cinnamomum Cassia (Chinese Cinnamon) Leaf Oil, Cinnamal, Eugenol, Limonene
So the main ingredients and base for this face wash is water, unrefined sugar extract, organic sea salt and unprocessed raw honey. Sounds almost good enough to eat doesn’t it! Then we find orange juice, guar gum which is a natural thickener with anti-inflammatory properties, acacia senegal gum extract, better known as Gum Arabic, Orange peel oil, clove oil, cinnamon leaf oil and finally Chinese cinnamon leaf oil. That’s it! No foaming agents, natural or synthetic. No added colourings, perfumes or preservatives.
So in short, this face wash is a mix of 100% naturally sourced ingredients that have been combined using the minimal amount of processing required. In other words it’s not been messed around with. The result is a face wash that is good for all skin types and for all ages. It’s advertised and promoted for teenagers with spots, people with sensitive skin or skin issues such as eczema. But even if you’re fortunate enough not suffer from any of those skin conditions, it is just a great all round face wash.
When companies change their formulations it’s often to make the product cheaper to manufacture and increase profits. Maybe as we’ve seen over the past few years, companies have reformulated to exclude the use of parabens in their new formulations. But often still not excluding loads of other non Del Brown Approved chemicals.
So what has changed? The ingredients list remain identical, but this new formulation is thicker and more moisturising than the previous version. The product is now more of a gel than a liquid, requiring less of it, because it is now more concentrated. So make sure you squeeze less product out and you’ll find it does just as good a job and will last you even longer. The natural orange colour remains the same as does the heady clove oil aroma with warm undertones of cinnamon.
The slippery silky formulation allows you to glide the gel all over your face effortlessly. Sensitive skins in particular will benefit from this friction-free application, reducing redness. Then rinse off to leave your skin thoroughly clean but without feeling tight or dry.
I’ve said it before, but I really wish I had something like this during my teens, rather than the synthetic chemical filled bright neon blue face wash I used to use. JooMo is still ranked in my top five best face wash products on Del Brown Approved!
