Possibly THE most natural face wash I’ve ever reviewed?

JooMo Honey & Orange Face Wash – 100ml (£6.95)

My regular followers will know how excited, passionate and enthusiastic I am about my natural products.  This is one review I have been very excited about writing.  I discovered this face wash called JooMo, designed and developed from Universities and research laboratories here in the UK.   At the moment it seems JooMo has only two products in its inventory.  A face wash for girls and one for boys.

Their mission, was to create a TRULY 100% natural product using no chemical or processed ingredients.  The result was this Jooma Face Wash.  I encourage you to take a moment to visit their website and read more on this product.  I have been using this for the past month as my daily face wash and here’s my report.

Firstly when the product arrived through the post, I was blown away by the strong orange and honey smell.  I could even smell it through the jiffy bag it was delivered in.  It smelt amazing!  As I was road testing other face washes at the time, I put this in my cupboard.  When I came to use it a month later, I noticed the orange and honey smell had gone and was replaced with a strong smell of cinnamon and clove oil.

The face wash has the texture of a runny gel, slightly orange in colour but mainly transparent.  It contains no foaming ingredients, so it doesn’t matter how hard you rub, the product will not foam or create bubbles.  Instead, the slippery texture glides over the skin, creating minimal friction.  So if you were usually red faced after rubbing face washes on your skin, this would certainly be of benefit to you.  If you’re familiar with using a foaming or cream based face wash, I encourage you to allow at least a week to get use to this non-foaming gel-like texture and routine, and to enjoy the benefits of clean natural cleansing.

Apply the invisible gel onto the damp face and enjoy washing off all the excess oil, dirt and grime of the day.  The product easily washes off with warm water leaving the skin clean, clear and feeling comfortable.  This is truly minimal fuss and effort on the part of the user and us males in particular are going to love using it.

The ingredients in JooMo are not only 100% natural but also the way they are processed is altogether better.  None of their ingredients have gone through chemical or physical changes.  On the label we see the biggest ingredient in the tube is Water, Sugar extract, sea salt and honey.  Then we find Orange Juice (yes juice not oil!), Orange Peel oil, clove oil and cinnamon.  The thickening ingredients are Guar Gum and Acacia Senegal Gum Extract.

Don’t be put off by the label stating ‘exclusively for young sensitive skin’.  I’m a man in his late 30’s and it worked great on my skin.  If only I had used this instead of that nasty bright blue bottle of anti-spot face wash I used continually for years as a teenager!  If you suffer with spots at any age or if like me, you don’t have spots but just want to use the most natural ingredients on your skin, give this serious consideration.

Highly Del Brown Approved this is sure to be a close contender in my top five face wash products of the year!

INGREDIENTS: Aqua, Saccharum Officinarum (unrefined sugar) Extract, Maris Sal (Sea Salt), Saponins, Mel (Honey), Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Juice, Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba (Guar) Gum, Acacia Senegal Gum Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Leaf Oil, Cinnamomum Zeylanicum (Cinnamon) Leaf Oil, Cinnamomum Cassia (Chinese Cinnamon) Leaf Oil, Cinnamal, Eugenol, Limonene

A natural honey based moisturiser

Simply Bee Men’s Moisturising Lotion – 200ml (£12.80)

Attention my ingredient purist friends among you.  Firstly, ignore the word “Men’s” and concentrate your eyes on ‘moisturising lotion’.

The ingredients in this product from Simply Bee are as minimalist as they come.  100% natural, no preservatives, no colourings, perfumes or synthetics.  Instead we find a mix of water, shea butter, beeswax, propolis, honey and lavender essential oil.  The only additional ingredient in the bottle is Polysorbate 60, which is a vegetable emulsifying wax that helps combine all the ingredients together.

The result is a white coloured, light fluffy textured cream (or lotion) which quickly absorbs into the skin.  Don’t expect to smell lavender, but the strong pleasant honey mix fragrance quickly dispersed when applied onto the skin.

The product is advertised simplybee’s website as a mens moisturisng lotion, but I preferred to use it as an aftersun, hand cream and body lotion.  I took this away with me on holiday and used it all over my body, shoulders and even my head, as a light, non-clogging, pleasant smelling body cream.

Ingredients: AQUA (Aqua), BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII BUTTER (Shea Butter), Vegetable Emulsifying Wax NF (POLYSORBATE 60), CERA ALBA (Beeswax), PROPOLIS CERA (Propolis), MALTODEXTRIN (Honey), LAVANDULA ANGUSTIFOLIA OIL (Lavender Essential Oil)

Lip balm like you’ve never experienced

Nova Scotia Fisherman Lip Balm – 9.9gm (£5.95)

Oh my goodness, just LOOK at the ingredients!  I challenge you to find a lip product with more moisturising, soothing and skin-benefitting properties, than found in this tiny pocket sized lip balm from Nova Scotia Fisherman.

If you were to spot this little chap on the shelves of your local health food shop, you’d be forgiven for not immediately identifying what it was.  But this offering from Nova Scotia Fisherman will certainly be a close contender for the Del Brown Approved! ‘best lip product of the year’ category.

Flip off the white lid and push the naturally brown coloured balm up via the inner tube at the base.  Then apply directly onto the lips.  The only down side to this design is what you do when you’re finished?  I find placing the lid on top of the product and push it back down into the tube works just fine.  Be careful not to mislay the cap!

You’ll quickly realise a little goes a long way, so this 9.9 gram tube, standing about 1 inch tall, is going to last you a very long time.  Despite being a 100% natural product, it is even able to boast a 12 month life once opened. It also has a pleasant aroma, no artificial strawberry or peppermint perfume here, which after months of opening still smells as strong and as pleasant as the day you first opened it.

Apply as required to help soothe, moisturise and help aid the healing of sore, dry or chapped lips.  Apply last thing at night and wake up still feeling the benefits, without any nasty waxy residue.

The packaging is very gender neutral and as it doesn’t look or act like a traditional lipstick, even us fellas feel comfortable getting it out in public!

Out of the 100% natural ingredients, 92.5% of them are organic.

Ingredients: Cera Alba (Beeswax), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Oil, Fucus Vesiculosus (Nova Scotia Sea Kelp), Olea Europea (Olive) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Organic Coconut Flavor, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Agave Americana Leaf Extract, Citrus Sinensis (Sweet Orange), Tocopherol (Vitamin E)

The power of the sea in a body scrub

Nova Scotia Fisherman Salt-N-Sea Body Scrub – 141g

Canadian born Nova Scotia Fisherman, lesser known here in the UK, make a range of natural products.  Click here to see all my Nova Scotia Fisherman reviews.  This pot of salt-n-sea is true to its word.  Sea salt mixed with oils and extracts taken from the sea.

The grains of sea salt in this product are really small.  They have been infused with jojoba seed oil, which has itself been infused with Nova Scotia Sea Kelp.  It is that that gives this body scrub such a unique aroma.  Other ingredients include Soybean oil, organic shea butter, Meadowfoam seed and Seabuckthorn oil.

Nova Scotia Sea Kelp – Fucus Vesiculosus more commonly known as bladderwrack, is a sea weed that has detoxifying properties acting as a barrier against toxins. Being cell regenerating it helps with skin elasticity and wrinkles. It is a cleansing anti-oxidant with anti-inflammatory properties.

Scoop out a small amount of these yellow coloured granules and massage onto dry or damp skin.  The sea salt release their oils which moisturise the skin.  The abrasive salt also removes dirt and dead skin cells, smoothes rough skin and unclogs pours leaving your skin feeling tingling and reenergised.

Ingredients: Maris Sal (Sea Salt), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil infused with Fucus Vesiculosus (Nova Scotia Sea Kelp)*, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)*, Limanthes Alba (Meadowfoam Seed) Oil, Parfum (100% essential oil blend) Hippophea Rhamnoides (Virgin Seabuckthorn) Oil

A natural SPF 25 face moisturiser

Balance Me Natural Protection Moisturiser SPF25 – 40ml (£26.00)

I would certainly describe this product as more of a sun cream SPF than a regular moisturiser.  The consistency of the cream is very thick and if applied in too greater amount, can result in a chalky residue on the skin.  Having said that, other than the cosmetic appearance of the product, I found it to work very well at protecting my face from the sun.

It contains both UVA and UVB protection without using the commonly used chemical ingredients.  The cream boasts 99% natural ingredients within the tube.  The squeezy tube contains 40mls of product, which is dispensed from a small tube beneath the cap.

I tried this out whilst on holiday earlier this year and once I became used to applying the product, I soon became a fan, especially after being out in the sun all day and seeing my face had been well protected.

My tip is to apply a small amount onto clean fingers then rub onto the skin until fully absorbed.  If you’re concerned about particularly sensitive or vulnerable areas, for example sun spots or broken capillaries, then apply a second layer for added sun protection.

As with all SPF products, you must select the correct level of SPF depending on your skin type.  If in doubt, go up!  The higher the SPF factor, the greater the protection.  Always read the label and ensure your product protects you against both UVA and UVB rays.  You’ll be surprised at how many popular supermarket brands contain little or none UVB protection.

Pomegranate soap from Bare Naturals

Bare Naturals Pomegranate & Pink Grapefruit Soap – 100g (£3.65)

I chatted to the co-founder and creator of barenaturals whilst at the Natural and Organic Show in London, earlier this year.  A young, small British company, hand making products in the UK using only natural ingredients and Vegan Society registered.  This company has a great ethos and integrity and their display of products and ingredients used echo everything this blog is all about.

This bar of pomegranate and pink grapefruit soap being my first review from their range.

It is an olive oil, coconut oil and palm oil (from sustainable sources) based soap.  Mixed with pomegranate, pink grapefruit and patchouli essential oils.  Finally in the ingredients list we see natural source Vitamin E.

The bar has a natural subtle fresh fruity aroma that lathers up easily thanks to the mix of the three base oils.   It leaves the skin feeling clean and comfortable, not tight and stripped.  The delicate smell quickly disperses leaving you feeling and smelling clean.  The ingredients were non-irritating and a pleasure to use.

As with all the natural soaps reviewed on Del Brown Approved, this soap isn’t just designed to be used to wash your hands.  It is made for cleansing the entire body.  If you suffer from skin irritation on the body then maybe you should start by re-thinking what you’re using to wash your skin with.

The quality of the ingredients found in these bars are comparable with some of the best body washes and shower gels I have reviewed.  My ingredient purist friends among you may even go as far as to say the ingredients in this bar BEAT the ingredients found to formulate most shower gels and body washes.

Ingredients: Saponified oils of: Olea Europaea (olive oil), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut), Elaeis Guineensis (sustainable palm), Punica Granatum (Pomegranate), Essential oils of: Citrus Racemosa (Pink Grapefruit), Litsea Cubeba, Pogostermon Cablin (Patchouli), Limonene*, Citral*, Tocopherol (Vitamin E)
