Gamila Secret Daily Herbal Skincare for your hands – 50ml (£18.00)

Having already reviewed the original Gamila Secret Cleansing Bar, I was very interested to try out the other products within the range.  This time the Gamila Secret Hand Cream.

The ingredients are 100% natural, using Sweet Almond Oil, Shea Butter and olive oil as the base, then we see Avocado oil, Sweet Orange, Sea Buckthorn oil and Aloe Vera.  Towards the end of the ingredients list we find some interesting plant extracts including Inula Helenium which is more commonly known as ‘horse-heal’.  Pistachio Oil, Fennel Flower and finally lavender oil.

These ingredients combine to create a bright yellow cream, which is easily absorbed and keeps the hands feeling moisturised without stickiness.   It has a mild orange zesty fragrance that isn’t over powering.

Ingredients: Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside, Butyrospermum Pqarkii [Shea Butter], Cera Alba, Cetyl Alcohol, Olea Europaea [Olive] Fruit Oil, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Persea Gratissima [Avocado] Oil Unsaponifiables, Benzyl Alcohol, Salicylic Acid, Glycerin, Sorbic Acid, Xantham Gum, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis [Sweet Orange] Seed Oil, Panthenol, Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Oil, Aloe Barbadensis [Aloe Vera] Leaf Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Phytate, Inula Helenium Extract, Laurus Nobilis Oil, Pistacia Vera Seed Oil, Nigella Sativa Seed Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia [Lavender Oil]

100% natural soap made with Greek Olive Oil

Cool No: 10 Natural Handmade Greek Olive Oil Soap – 85g-95g (£4.50)

Whilst at the Natural and Organic trade show recently, I’ve discovered a range of hand made soaps made on the Greek island of Aegina, using locally produced, cold pressed, extra virgin olive oil as their main ingredient.  The bars are made in small batches, contain nothing artificial, so no synthetic colours, perfumes or preservatives.  They don’t contain any chemical nasties and come in a range of varieties, focusing on different skin benefits and uses.

I was given the ‘Number 10’ bar to try from Wood-Knit-Bee, as it is particularly foamy and moisturising, so great for use as a shaving cream.  I used my shaving brush to whip up some foam, which it did very easily.  The foam stayed on my skin long enough to shave.  I find some bars of soap that claim are suitable for shaving, often lose their foam quickly and have little or no slip and slide value.  Which is never great when you’re about to slide a sharp blade across the skin.

This soap has a mild pleasant fragrance, nothing over powering or offence. Post shaving, I used the same bar to wash with.  It lathers up well, cleaning the skin gently and thoroughly leaving no irritation or dryness.

The base of the soap is Greek Olive Oil, followed by Coconut oil, Palm Kernel oil, Caster Seed oil, Palm oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Water and Lye.  That’s it!

The ingredients are excellent, fully Del Brown Approved! and beat hands down, a lot of the better known ‘shaving soaps’ with its list of genuine natural ingredients. So if you’re a gent who prefers to wet shave with a shaving brush, or a lady looking for easy shaving of your legs in the bath tub, I’d highly recommend giving this one a try!

Ingredients: Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil, Cocos Nucefera (Coconut) Oil, Elaeis Guineensis (Palm Kernel) Oil, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Aqua, Lye

Bodhi & Birch Neroli face oil

Bodhi & Birch Neroli Luce Revitalising Face Oil – 15ml (£32.00)

First day on holiday in Lanzarote and the other half suggests going for a little stroll along the coast.  The weather is overcast, blustery and temperature requires a jumper.  Six hours later, we return from our ‘little’ walk and one hour after that, the sun burn began to reveal itself.  I know, I know!!  My forehead, nose, cheeks and ears, all ablaze!

But, thank goodness I had packed this little black glass bottle of goodness from Bodhi & Birch.  I mixed a few drops together with my moisturiser and pressed it onto my face.  My skin drank it up like a sponge.  Why did I mix the two? I could have used this oil entirely on its own but in this scenario my skin really needed some help.  It’s entirely all down to personal preference.  Moisturisers help hydrate the skin.  Oils and serums do the same, but they also contain high potency of essential oils that can help target other issues.

The bright orange coloured oil has a cocktail of aromas and is surprisingly non greasy.  It absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving it hydrated and comfortable.  Within no time my face felt calmer and soothed.  So pleased and impressed was I with the results, I continued this routine morning and evening and am blessed to have been left with smooth, hydrated skin with an even and balanced complexion.

As I’d expect from Bodhi & Birch, having recently reviewed their Himalayan body salt scrub, the ingredients speak for themselves.  The base and biggest ingredients in the pump are Grape Seed, Apricot and Jojoba oil.  Then we see Evening Primrose and Sea Buckthorn – in large quantity here.  I’ve noticed other brands boasting about this ingredient on the front of their packaging, only to see it used in tiny quantities.  Bitter orange, Frankincense, high altitude Lavender, Geranium, Palmarosa and finally Ylang-Ylang.

To focus on just two ingredients within this product.  Frankincense is recognised for its skin regeneration properties, to help improve skin tone and condition. It acts as a balancer, reducing excess dryness or oiliness, rebalancing the skin. Its cytophylactic properties encourages the growth of skin cells and also effectively heals sores and wounds, reducing scarring and inflammation.

Sea Buckthorn oil has 6 different fat soluble vitamins, 22 fatty acids, 42 kinds of lipids and 36 kinds of flavanoids. It is the richest natural source of Vitamin A (Beta Carotene) and Omega 7.

The combined effects of the ingredients in this oil create a powerful natural healing, regenerating and calming effect on the skin. Suitable for Normal, Combination, Dull, Tired or Blemished prone skin types.

Interesting point about the dark smoky glass bottle.  The properties in natural oils degrade in sunlight, so the dark smoky pump bottle helps preserve the potency of the ingredients.  Be mindful of this when purchasing oils in clear containers.

Ingredients: Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Prunus Armeniaca, (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Seed Oil, Hippophae Rhamnoides (Sea Buckthorn) Fruit Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Flower Oil, Boswellia Carterii (Frankincense) Oil, Lavendula Augustifolia (High-Altitude Lavender) Flower Oil, Pelargoneum Graveolens (Geranium) Flower Oil, Cymbopogon Martini (Palmarosa) Oil, Cananga Odorata (Ylang-Ylang) Flower Oil, Benzyl Alcohol*, Benzyl Benzoate*, Benzyl Salicylate*, Citral*, Citronellol*, Eugenol*, Farnesol*, Geraniol*, Isoeugenol*, Limonene*, Linalool* *natural constituents of essential oilsé-revitalising-face-oil
