Dear Del Brown Approved – what would be a good anti-dandruff shampoo? I keep on trying organic stuff but nothing seems to work!

Dandruff can be caused by a plethora of different reasons. It can be due to a dry scalp caused by the ingredients in your shampoo, stripping your hair and scalp of its natural oils, causing irritation and flaky skin. It could be due to skin irritation from hair products such as hair gel, moose or spray. There may be ingredients within them that are irritating your scalp. Stress, washing your hair too frequently, or infrequently, psoriasis, dermatitis and eczema are all possible causes of dandruff.

I’d suggest we start with the basics. I’d recommend trying a good natural shampoo, which does not contain SLS or other harsh scalp irritating ingredients. Be aware, when changing products, you must allow time to get use. If you’ve used a supermarket cheap shampoo all your life, the day you try a different brand, you may not like it to start off with. The oil glands in your skin will have to re-adjust from what ever you were last using.

So, specifically aimed at targeting dandruff, here are my recommendations:

Jason Dandruff Relief Treatment Shampoo

The Green People Irritated Scalp Shampoo

Organic Homme 10 Itch Away Shampoo

Weleda Wheat Balancing Shampoo

Lavera Cornflower anti-Dandruff Shampoo
