Olive Oil Soaps
In September 2013, I spent a delightful week in sunny Crete. Whilst sight seeing and pottering around the shops, I stumbled across a plethora of Olive Oil Soaps.
Being me, the first thing I did was to check the ingredients and was amazed to find the ingredients varied so much from one brand to another. What looked to be a promising find, teasing me with words like ‘hand made’ and ‘natural’, often led to disappointment spotting ‘artificial colouring’, perfumes and fillers.
So before I made a purchase, I hunted out only the bars that had the purest ingredients, nothing artificial, no added colours or perfumes and eliminating unnecessary additives. When the bar stated for example “with lavender”, or “aloe vera”, I would only buy the bars that had lavender essential oil and not the word ‘extract’ or ‘lavender perfume’.
Now a few words about Olive Oil soaps. They tend to be quite hard, which is good if you’re looking for a soap which will last and last!! They don’t tend to have a particularly pleasent smell, think old wooden cupboards (random but accurate!). But on the plus side, if you buy right, you’ll end up washing your skin with one of the most purist and natural ingredients on the market. Sensitive skins in particular tend to love olive oil soaps and if you know the health benefits of olive oil and apply it to your skincare regime, you’re surely onto a winner!
I doubt you’d be able to purchase any of the soaps featured in my photograph over here in the UK. If you spot one.. let me know!!
